Information about Vaulting
Vaulting is best described as Gymnastics on a moving horse. It requires strength, coordination, balance and flexibility.
The most important member of a vaulting team is the horse. Vaulters learn to move in unity with the horse and to respect the horse and his needs at all times.
Vaulting can be performed in a team of six, individually or in pairs. The vaulter can choose to do it recreationally or go as far as he or she wishes, earn medals, participate in competitions
or vault at the international level.
Vaulters learn to care for the horse, they are expected to help with chores before and after practice.
Before beginner vaulters are able to perform on the horse, they will learn to do compulsory and freestyle moves on a practice barrel. Here the vaulters will learn to be safe and comfortable. Safety
is a very important factor in vaulting.
All children will learn to fall and practice landing correctly. Studies have shown that vaulting is the safest out of all the equestrian disciplines.
The horse is controlled by the
Longeur, who holds the horse on a longe line at a steady pace on a circle. The horse is trained over several years for vaulting, it is trained to accept the vaulters and their movements.
All vaulting horses are gentle and have good dispositions, they love their job and the children!
High Vaultage was founded in 1998. We currently have two vaulting horses.
Sam for beginner vaulters and Finn for advanced vaulters.
Practice times are on Tuesday, depending on weather indoors.
Surcingle and pads as well as all other equipment is provided
by High Vaultage.
For practice session children should wear soft vaulting shoes and leotards or comfortable stretch pants.
Vaulting shoes are available online at www.pvsupply.net
